Zcash Community Grants has withdrawn its plan to redirect about 98,000 ZEC toward future mining rewards, ending a proposal first floated on October 29. On November 3, the committee said any changes to funding should go through Zcash’s normal governance process.

The plan was meant to answer criticism of the grants treasury by shifting existing funds and future allocations toward the Network Sustainability Mechanism, a reserve tied to future mining rewards. But critics said moving the money did not answer the core question: who controls it, and what accountability the committee has.

Helius chief executive Mert Mumtaz called the compromise “nowhere near good enough,” and Tyler Winklevoss also questioned why a small committee should oversee such a large pool of capital.

So while the redirection itself is now off the table, the withdrawal does not resolve the wider fight over control of the grants treasury, and the committee says any future funding changes will have to move through Zcash’s normal governance process.
