Coinbase is moving the conversation about Bitcoin and quantum computing out of distant speculation and into active planning. Brian Armstrong says there is no immediate quantum threat to Bitcoin, but that preparation should start now.

The new Bitcoin Security Consortium has $15 million committed over 3 years, bringing together Coinbase, BlackRock, and Fidelity Digital Assets, alongside several other major Bitcoin firms. The group says it will not direct Bitcoin protocol changes or take positions on governance. Instead, each member will decide for itself which developers, researchers, and organizations to support.

Mike Schmidt from Brink is volunteering as coordinator, and BlackRock digital assets head Robert Mitchnick says Bitcoin Core developers do incredibly important work, framing this as support for that effort.
