Aave founder Stani Kulechov is making an unusually public push for the CLARITY Act as the bill’s path through the Senate shrinks. DeFi founders have mostly kept a low profile in policy debates, but Kulechov is now calling for industry unity, arguing that a working legal framework is better than continued uncertainty, even if it’s imperfect.

The specific timing matters: Senate leadership no longer expects the CLARITY Act to advance before the summer break, a setback that could sharply reduce its chances of moving forward this year. Lawmakers had been aiming for an early August window to preserve a realistic 2026 path for the bill, but that target is now under pressure, and the pre-election schedule could soon crowd out further progress.

For Aave and other leading DeFi protocols, what is at stake is how US law could eventually shape which teams count as software developers versus regulated financial operators. Kulechov’s public lobbying marks a shift. Protocols are now stepping directly into the legislative fight when they see business risk on the line.

In the market, Aave has been holding around support levels in the mid-90s, with CoinGecko market data updated on July 26. That does not make this a price story. The immediate watchpoint is whether Senate leaders find room for a final push before the legislative window closes.
