Deutsche Bank is about to roll out a digital-asset custody service for institutional and corporate clients, starting in Germany and set to expand across Europe. This is more than just another big bank touching crypto, it’s Deutsche Bank building the control layer for holding digital assets.

Custody means safeguarding the private keys that prove ownership of bitcoin and ether, with the service launching in the next few weeks. It’s not targeted at retail; the stated focus is on institutional and corporate accounts, and it’s being built with Taurus, the Swiss infrastructure firm it partnered with last year.

What matters is that custody is the piece institutions typically need before they can hold assets on behalf of clients, connect them to treasury and payments systems, or build broader servicing around them. The key watchpoint is how broad the rollout becomes beyond the initial custody service.
