South Korea has now put a date on tokenized securities. The Financial Services Commission says a first market for tokenized stocks, bonds, and exchange-traded funds is scheduled to open on February 4, 2027.
This is not a new retail crypto venue. It is the existing securities market moving part of its record-keeping and settlement onto distributed-ledger systems. Instead of relying only on the current electronic book-entry system, issuance and trading records would also be logged on a shared ledger run by the Korea Securities Depository and approved securities firms.
The next key date is the end of September. That is when draft rules are due out for public consultation, including which products qualify, what market units can be used in over-the-counter trading, and how investor accounts would be handled inside the regulated system.
This is a market structure update, not a price story: a dated rollout for bringing parts of South Korea’s stocks-and-bonds plumbing onto ledger-based rails, with the real operating details due in September.
