Visa and Mesh are preparing a new payments setup that would let crypto and stablecoin holders pay directly from participating wallet apps at more than 175 million merchant locations on Visa’s network. The service is expected to launch soon.
There is no separate crypto-linked card. Instead, Mesh says its software connects wallet balances to Visa’s acceptance network, so checkout can start in the wallet, online or in store, while the merchant still receives a standard Visa payment. That means merchants do not need to accept crypto natively.
The balances in scope include stablecoins and other crypto assets held in participating wallets. Mesh describes the arrangement as combining Visa’s global acceptance network with its orchestration infrastructure, while Visa’s rails handle the merchant-facing side of the transaction. The key unknowns are which wallets will support the service first, which assets will be available, and how quickly adoption follows once the launch begins.
Whether Visa and Mesh actually translate crypto wallet payments into everyday checkout behavior at 175 million merchants is the watchpoint now.
