Hyperliquid has just crossed a major threshold, racking up more than $1.4 billion in cumulative revenue. That puts it near the top among decentralized derivatives protocols. More than $1.26 billion of that has gone into open-market buybacks of HYPE, the native token, showing how closely protocol revenue and token flow have been linked. Hyperliquid also accounts for about 40.1% of global on-chain perpetuals 24-hour volume and about 62.5% of open interest as of late August, with cumulative perpetual trading volume above $5.4 trillion.
Even so, that business success is not being matched cleanly by token momentum. The gap stands out: Hyperliquid is posting real operating scale and traction, yet the response from HYPE has been cooler. That separation between protocol strength and token performance is the key tension in this story.
Hyperliquid’s $1.4 billion revenue milestone matters most if HYPE momentum keeps cooling alongside it.
