BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust pulled in $205.9 million on Monday, August 31. That was almost the entire day’s total for US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, which took in $216.7 million combined.

That gap is the point. On that day, most of the money going into spot Bitcoin ETFs went into IBIT.

There’s another comparison that helps explain why the fund keeps drawing attention. Since launching in January 2024, IBIT has slightly outperformed Vanguard’s S&P 500 ETF, VOO, according to Bloomberg’s Eric Balchunas.

VOO is one of the biggest and most familiar stock-market funds in the US. So this is not just a crypto fund leading its own category for one session. It is also being measured against one of the market’s standard benchmark funds, and, so far, it has held up well in that comparison.
