Charles Schwab has completed its rollout of direct Bitcoin and Ethereum trading for eligible retail clients. What began as a phased launch in April is now available across Schwab’s eligible client base through its new Schwab Crypto account.
The bigger shift is that Schwab is embedding spot crypto trading inside the mainstream brokerage ecosystem. Schwab says it serves 46 million client accounts, and a separate rollout report described 38.9 million active accounts and more than $12 trillion in client assets.
Eligible clients can now buy and sell Bitcoin or Ether directly through the offering, with each trade carrying a 0.75% fee. The product is held through Charles Schwab Premier Bank, with Paxos providing sub-custody and trade execution services.
For now, the offering is limited to Bitcoin and Ethereum. It is a concrete step toward making direct crypto ownership part of mainstream U.S. brokerage access.
