Meanwhile, a Bermuda-based life insurer, has raised $37.5 million in new funding, led by Bain Capital Crypto and joined by Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, and Apollo. That brings the company’s total funding to $180 million as it expands outside the United States. What sets Meanwhile apart is its product structure: premiums and benefits are both denominated entirely in bitcoin, not US dollars. Through the Bitcoin Life One-Pay policy, policyholders pay a single bitcoin premium upfront and receive a guaranteed bitcoin-denominated death benefit. Meanwhile says it is the first licensed life insurer operating entirely in bitcoin, under a Bermuda Monetary Authority licence granted in 2024.

The big question is whether there’s enough demand for these policies beyond crypto’s core. Meanwhile has already signed up 15 brokers across Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE and Switzerland, targeting wealthy families who want liabilities and reserves aligned with their bitcoin holdings. The next test is how those brokers’ clients respond.
