CSD BR, one of Brazil’s central securities depositories, is now mirroring fund ownership records for selected BTG Pactual investment funds on the XRP Ledger in partnership with Ripple. This is not about issuing fund shares or moving the entire fund process on-chain. Instead, it’s a direct infrastructure move: the blockchain acts as a parallel record, while CSD BR’s own systems remain the official book for registration, deposit, and settlement.

The key point here is the scope. CSD BR supervises over 22 trillion reais, or about $4 trillion, in registered assets. The institutions involved are not betting on replacing existing custody or settlement overnight. The value, at least for now, is in having a verifiable record on a public blockchain that approved institutions can compare in near real time against CSD BR’s official books, without abandoning current regulatory controls.

Ripple says this is the first time a recognized central securities depository is mirroring securities ownership records onto a public blockchain. The initial records use Ripple’s Multi-Purpose Token standard. The potential next step could be direct on-chain issuance or trading, and expanding to other asset classes like real estate or agribusiness receivables. But today’s development is really about shared recordkeeping infrastructure, proving the record rather than moving the asset.
