Optimism just made a clean break from future user airdrops. Governance approved moving 546.9 million OP out of the airdrop bucket and into a Strategic Ecosystem Fund that will be controlled by the Optimism Foundation.

That means the losers here are users who were still hoping for another retroactive token drop. Optimism has already handed out 269.1 million OP across five airdrop rounds, and after this vote, there are no more planned.

The vote passed with 17.974 million OP in favor and 10.931 million against, with the deciding support coming from an Optimism-funded core development team.

So the trade is straightforward: instead of distributing those tokens to users, Optimism will spend them on deals, network buildout, and incentives meant to pull more activity onto OP Mainnet and OP Enterprise.
