The move comes after the Ethereum Foundation formed a post-quantum research team in January 2026, underscoring how seriously network leaders are taking the long-term durability question. Ethereum research materials say the security model is meant to last for decades, which raises the stakes for resilience against quantum attacks, not just at the wallet level, but also across the base protocol and rollup infrastructure. On privacy, the roadmap signals more work on zero-knowledge and privacy-preserving tools built into the network, with recognition that advances in quantum computing could put pressure on those systems too.
This is not about a near-term catalyst. It’s an agenda reset inside the protocol, prioritizing structural protection and a more defensive, long-range strategy. What developers and enterprises are watching now is when these upgraded priorities move from roadmap language into client code and formal proposals.
